Kelly Clarkson is receiving a great deal of praise from social media following her ex-husband's private cancer battle.
Brandon Blackstock died on August 7 after being diagnosed with melanoma more than three years ago. Blackstock, 48, and Clarkson were married from 2013 until 2022 (when their divorce was finalized) and had two children together, River and Remington, who are now 11 and 9 respectfully.
Throughout the course of Blackstock's treatment, Clarkson, 43, is said to have supported him the best that she could. That included putting their kids first and being there for them while their father took the disease head on. Clarkson kept Blackstock's illness private, allowing him the ability to spend the last couple years of his life privately.
Over the past few months, Clarkson has been criticized for her absence on her talk show and the cancellation of shows in Las Vegas, but she never once shared her ex's diagnosis with the world. Instead, she took the heat and did the best she could to navigate the unpredictable circumstances.
"When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake," a source told People magazine. "Kelly has always tried to keep things classy. It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She’s been devastated for the kids."
"The divorce was incredibly difficult for her — messy, painful and something she felt terrible about. But she always wanted her kids to have the best relationship possible with their dad. She never spoke poorly about Brandon to the kids," the source added.
Now, people on the internet are praising Clarkson for doing the right thing.
"He betrayed her, took millions and broke her heart — but Kelly Clarkson still stood by Brandon Blackstock as he fought cancer in his final days," read a quote from a Facebook page called Queen of Covers. has received more than 12,000 likes and 1,000 comments from social media users who support Clarkson's decisions.
"Didn’t think it was possible to love her any more than I do and then she goes and does this. She extended grace when no one in the world would have judged her if she didn’t. She’s such a class act," one person responded.
"I’ve always thought she was classy about how she handled things but the love for your children will truly provide perspective and allow forgiveness when you realize how fleeting life is at times," someone else said.

"She’s always been one of pure dedication, resilience and grace. As a person. That hasn’t changed even after her success. I’ve been a fan of hers from the very start of American Idol. Always felt she deserved whatever good came her way. Good people do exist," a third comment read.
Just one day before Blackstock died, Clarkson announced that she needed to postpone the August dates of her Las Vegas residency. She did say that her ex-husband was ill but she didn't elaborate.
She has yet to speak out about his death.
