Less than 24 hours after Kelly Clarkson announced she'd be postponing the remaining dates of her Las Vegas residency to be "fully present" for her children while their dad (her ex-husband) Brandon Blackstock suffered from an illness, news broke that Blackstock has died at age 48 following a battle with cancer.
Clarkson and Blackstock were married for more than six years when they split in 2020, later finalizing their divorce in 2022. During that time, they welcomed two kids: daughter River Rose and son Remington Alexander.
But long before going their separate ways, Clarkson was convinced that Blackstock was "the one," as she said in a 2013 interview with Cosmopolitan.

"Brandon's totally the one," Clarkson said. "I've never been so happy."
Elsewhere in the interview, Clarkson, who was 30 at the time, shared that though she and Blackstock had known each other for years, it hadn't been until recently that they decided to start seeing each other. She added of their relationship, "I've never been truly loved like I am right now."
A rep for Blackstock's family confirmed his death on Thursday, August 7.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” said the statement. “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
