MCBEE, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- The Town of McBee awoke Thursday morning to a swarm of S.C. Law Enforcement Division agents executing arrests of McBee Police Department Captain Greg Block and a McBee woman, investigators claim Block began a sexual relationship with after he showed up to investigate a potential child sex assault claim.
SLED agents charged McBee Police Department Captain Greg Block with obstructing a child sex assault investigation, then becoming involved in a sexual relationship with the woman who reported the assault to law enforcement. (WJZY Photo/Jody Barr)Agents arrested Block and Genese Curtiss just after dawn Thursday morning, Aug. 7, and booked them into the Chesterfield County Detention Center. Block faces one count of misconduct in office and one count of obstruction of justice.
A few hours later, SLED agents rolled up to McBee Town Hall, which also houses the town's court and police department, and appeared to be executing search warrants.
Nearly two-dozen SLED agents responded to the town hall throughout the raid.

The raid comes a few months after SLED opened a criminal investigation into multiple allegations of misconduct involving the McBee town government and the police force. The charging documents show Curtiss reported to a hospital in nearby Hartsville to seek care for an injury to a child's genitals.
Curtiss told medical staff the child injured her vagina after a fall in the kitchen.
Curtiss told Captain Block, who answered the initial call for service, that a convicted sex offender lived nearby and had been "loitering around her house," according to charging documents.

Investigators found that the pair began a sexual relationship and Block impregnated Curtiss around March 2025. (Source: Chesterfield County Detention Center)As the responding officer, Block was involved in the early communications with the S.C. Department of Social Services. He told DSS that Curtiss left the minor children home alone "at the time of the incident," and that "Curtiss was trying to coach the children on what to say," according to the court documents.
Hospital staff told Block the child's injuries were "not consistent" with Curtiss' story, and the hospital asked DSS to come to the hospital to further investigate what medical staff believed was a possible child sexual assault.
OFFICER DOWN: Two-time felon overseeing the McBee Police DepartmentBoth Block and Curtiss were told about the doctor's suspicions that the child was possibly a victim of a sex assault and referred them and the case to a Florence hospital for further examination. Once the Hartsville hospital discharged the child and Curtiss, it was "with the expectation that Capt. Block and Curtiss were taking the child..." to the Florence hospital.
Instead of complying with the doctor's referral, investigators said Block called DSS and the Florence hospital, saying "the child did not have vaginal tearing and injuries," according to the charging documents. Block told DSS that he would conduct a law enforcement investigation, and he'd order a forensic interview for the child.
Block then "cancelled DSS' response" to the Hartsville hospital, according to the S.C. Law Enforcement Division.

(WJZY Photo/Jody Barr)Captain Block later filed a police report titled 'Child Injury,' which investigators said "contained a false statement and partial information that was misleading," according to the court documents.
Block then "produced a letter" for the child's elementary school, claiming "he had investigated the injury." Curtiss again took the child to another child center after she complained of pain in her private area and other medical issues. Once again, a doctor "noted injuries to the child's vaginal area," and this time Block told the doctor that "he was not concerned with sexual assault but was going to schedule a forensic interview for the child," according to court records.
Some time later, Block and Curtiss "initiated a sexual relationship," according to the court file, that continued until Curtiss "confronted Captain Block that she was pregnant in March 2025," the charging documents state. SLED found that the child victim was never taken for a forensic interview, and no interview was ever scheduled by Captain Block.
OFFICER DOWN: Ambushed McBee cop claims town implemented ticket quota, earned himself ‘cash cow’ nicknameState police opened an investigation into this matter in July 2025. On July 28, 2025, SLED found that Curtiss called the hospital in Hartsville, asking staff to "change the medical report to conclude no evidence of possible sexual assault was found," according to SLED.
Agents also said Curtiss "refused" to bring the child in for a forensic interview and refused a prior forensic interview from a prior complaint in 2024.
"Between Oct. 14, 2024, and present, Capt. Block, a certified law enforcement officer, provided false and/or misleading information to DSS, the school, medical facilities, and on his MPD report. Block never scheduled a forensic interview with the Child Advocacy Center, as he told DSS and medical providers he would," court records show.
Curtiss placed the child "at unreasonable risk of harm affecting the child's mental and/or physical health related to abuse that was possibly sexual in nature," charging documents show. "Furthermore, Curtiss intentionally attempted to impede SLED and DSS from conducting their respective investigations."
Around two-dozen SLED agents swarmed the McBee Town Hall on August 7, 2025, executing search warrants related to an ongoing criminal investigation into the town hall and the town's police force. (WJZY Photo/Jody Barr)Block bonded out of the Chesterfield County Detention Center right after his hearing and went back to the McBee Police Department. Queen City News Chief Investigative Reporter Jody Barr found Block cleaning out his patrol truck, where Block denied the allegations against him.
Here's a partial transcript of that exchange:
BARR: "Captain Block, is there anything you want to say about these charges?"
BLOCK: "Yes, sir, they're false. I'm not guilty of this stuff. There's nothing more I can say per my attorney, sir.
BARR: "Did you obstruct justice or commit misconduct in office?"
OFFICER DOWN: McBee cop who survived 62 shots fired at him says town threw him out ‘like garbage’BLOCK: "No, sir. No, sir, I did not."
BARR: "Did you do anything to further help investigate this potential child sex assault case?"
BLOCK: "Sir, there was no evidence of any sexual assault or abuse."
BLOCK: "I didn't do any of this, man. This is - 23 years of a clean career, I never did anything - nothing. I did my job and I think this is some in-fueding with certain individuals and like I said, man...I can't speak more on it until I speak with my attorneys and stuff."
BLOCK: "Please keep in mind, man, I got kids. You understand what I'm saying? I know you've got a job to do, but I got kids, man."
BARR: "Did you think about that when you met Mrs. Curtiss and handled that case?"
BLOCK: "Yes, sir, I did, and I know where you're getting at, but you don't know the whole story about that."
McBee Mayor Glenn Odom issued the following statement to Queen City News when asked for comment following the Thursday arrest and SLED raid on town hall: "The Town of McBee is aware of the recent charges involving one of its police officers and takes the matter very seriously. The officer has been suspended without pay. We remain committed to transparency, we intend to fully cooperate with law enforcement, and the Town will share updates as appropriate."
This all comes months after Queen City News investigator Jody Barr first uncovered serious allegations of misconduct involving McBee town leadership.
