Becoming the NFL’s highest-paid tight end over the offseason — even if was only for less than a month — didn’t change Trey McBride’s pro mindset, it reaffirmed it.
McBride and the Arizona Cardinals have been grinding all offseason and throughout training camp in hopes of taking a big leap in Jonathan Gannon’s third year as head coach.
Although the team’s chemistry has grown immensely since the start of training camp, McBride knows that for that work to pay off during the regular season, it has to start in the offseason.
“Absolutely, I think just the the camaraderie of being together,” McBride told Arizona Sports’ Wolf & Luke on Wednesday. “Kyler (Murray) had us all together working out in the offseason, trying to get that connection where we can throw routes on air and catch the ball and ultimately just being around each other, wanting to play hard for each other.
“We got such a young team. … This is a year where we got to take the next step. We have such a great offense, so many talented play makers on this offense and I’m excited to see how they spread the ball around and how well these guys do.”
McBride also attended the popular Tight End University, a three-day camp where tight ends from all over the NFL come together over the offseason.
It’s all about making the whole position better, McBride said.
“Ultimately, we’re trying to grow the position. We’re trying to elevate this position as high as possible so everybody can eat a little bit,” he added.

The offense on paper is looking dangerous and has been infused with young talent through the draft in recent years.
McBride himself was taken by the Cardinals in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft and is now entering his fourth year in the league.
He had a breakout year in 2024, hauling in 111 receptions for 1,146 yards and four total touchdowns.
Other promising talent on offense includes second-year back Trey Benson and first-rounders Paris Johnson Jr. and Marvin Harrison Jr., whose growth both on and off the field over the offseason has been a large talking point.
Since being drafted fourth overall, Harrison has had huge expectations associated with him, largely connected to his slightly underwhelming rookie year and his father being Hall-of-Fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison Sr.
McBride knows just how lethal this offense can be if Harrison continues to develop more chemistry with Murray on the field.
“Marvin’s obviously a stud, a guy who does everything the right way,” McBride said. “You’ve seen all over social media the improvements he’s made physically. He’s gotten bigger, he’s gotten stronger, but I’m excited to see him connect with Kyler a little bit more. He’s a generational guy. A guy who’s a freak athlete, big, strong, can do it all. He’s a guy that I trust fully. He’s a guy if the ball’s in the air, he’s going to come down with it and I’m excited to see him and Kyler take that next step this year.”
