WEBSTER, N.Y. – The upcoming Fairlife facility in Webster is drawing significant attention as hundreds of people apply for jobs at what is expected to be the largest dairy plant in the Northeast. The facility, located off Tebor Road, is set to open in about six months.
Sephrin Ebertz, senior HR manager for Fairlife Webster Plant Operations, said, “Between yesterday and today we have interviewed over 500 potential candidates.”
Fairlife aims to fill at least 160 positions, including roles such as packaging and processing operators, warehouse workers, maintenance, and quality assurance. The company has invested $650 million in the facility, which measures at 745,000-square-feet.
“Our process is complex,” Ebertz said. “And so we look for technical aptitude. So RIT being right in the backyard is fabulous for that. Cornell has a dairy program. So it’s great to be able to source locally.”
Fairlife’s starting wage of $23 an hour has attracted many applicants, including Malaki Stanley, who is currently without a job.
“Well, it’d help me get through school, first of all,” Stanley said. “I’m a business student at MCC. There’s bills. I got kids as well, I got two kids at home. So it’ll help me make my way to the next semester.”
For those who missed the recent round of interviews, Fairlife announced another round will be held on Sept. 9 and 10. The facility expects to be operational by mid-January.
