Arizona State’s Jordyn Tyson and Arizona’s Luke Wysong have both earned spots in the preseason watch list for the prestigious Biletnikoff Award.
The Biletnikoff Award is given to the nation’s most outstanding FBS receiver. Since the award’s inception in 1994, the award has exclusively gone to the nation’s best wide receiver, but it is open to all pass-catchers.
The Biletnikoff Award’s semifinalists, three finalists and winner will be selected by the award’s committee, “a group of 600 prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, Biletnikoff Award winners, and other former receivers.”
ASU’s Jordyn Tyson enters as a favorite
Tyson earned his spot on the preseason watch list after a stellar first year with the Sun Devils in 2024. In 12 games last season, Tyson caught 75 passes for 1,101 yards and 10 touchdowns.
In comparison, Travis Hunter, who won the 2024 Biletnikoff Award, caught 96 passes for 1.258 yards and 15 touchdowns in 13 games.

Tyson quickly established himself as one of the team’s top receivers early on as he had a breakout performance in Arizona State’s Week 3 matchup against Texas State, where he caught six passes for 120 yards and a touchdown in a 31-28 Sun Devils win.
Tyson kept that momentum going throughout the season, notably in Arizona State’s game against Kansas State in November, where he had his best game of the season, catching 12 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns.
Tyson and quarterback Sam Leavitt’s connection was in full effect, but just two weeks later, the receiver was sidelined for the rest of the year with a collarbone injury suffered in the Territorial Cup.
Now healthy and making plays at Sun Devils training camp, Tyson is aiming for an even bigger 2025 season as he and Leavitt enter their second year together.
Arizona’s new WR Luke Wysong on the radar
Wysong had a breakout season with New Mexico in 2024, catching 69 passes for 840 yards in 11 games.
Wysong is a New Mexico native and had been with the team for four seasons prior to breaking out.
Wysong had his best game of the season against Utah State in October, reeling in 10 passes for 156 yards. Although New Mexico may have been out of the nation’s focus early on after dropping their first four games of the season, Wysong’s play definitely caught the eye of Arizona, as he was one of the Wildcats’ biggest transfers over the offseason.
Arizona had to reshape its receiver group for the 2025 season after the departure of star receiver Tetairoa McMillan, bringing in talented pass catchers like Wysong and more to supplement McMillan’s production.
Although Wysong may not have had the numbers last season to contend for the Biletnikoff Award, his place on the 2025 preseason watch list means that the voters could see him having his best career season yet with Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita and a new pass-heavy offense under coordinator Seth Doege.
