LYONS, N.Y. – The Wayne County District Attorney unsealed an indictment charging a former Lyons High School basketball coach with sex crimes. Dean Schott II was arraigned in Wayne County Court on charges of criminal sexual act and sexual abuse stemming from an investigation that began in summer 2019.

Schott pleaded not guilty to the charges. He worked in the district for over 20 years. The sheriff’s office didn’t reveal any details about the victims, but believes Schott used his position to prey on students, and suspects there could be more victims.
“This is a well-known person, well-trusted person, and we believe that he used his position in order to prey upon and have, you know, access to a large number of students to use his position and accessing those students. So that’s why we do believe there are more out there, more victims out there that should come and speak to us,” said Sheriff Robert Milby.
Schott was released with an order of protection against the victim. He is due back in court in October.
If convicted, Schott could face up to four years in prison, with the possibility of consecutive sentencing if more victims come forward.
