Glenn Schumann has helped the Georgia Bulldogs have one of the best defenses in all of college football over the past few years, as he has been working for Kirby Smart since 2018.
He has held different titles such as inside linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator before becoming defensive coordinator in 2024. The defense at times last year was dominant, especially in wins against Clemson and Texas. However, there were games against Georgia Tech and Alabama where the defense wasn’t the Bulldogs defense fans had come to expect.
That inconsistency is something that bothered Schumann, and he said that the unit didn’t live up to the standard enough last year.
“We weren’t consistent enough to meet the standard,” Schumann told reporters on Wednesday morning. “That’s just reality … It has to be better, and you can’t be up and down. Consistency is the mark of a great defense.”

The biggest challenge that Schumann has for his team will be can the unit be great each and every week.
It can’t afford to have games where they give up 40+ points, especially with an offense that will now have a new quarterback in Gunner Stockton leading the way.
The Bulldogs get the season underway on August 30 against Marshall.
