The mother of superstar actor Brad Pitt, Jane Etta Pitt, has died at the age of 84. In a surprise appearance just weeks before her death, the actor took an opportunity on camera to give her a shoutout. Fans loved it.
The fun moment came in June when Pitt attended a screening of his movie, F1 The Movie. As he stood at the front of the theater alongside Today co-host Savannah Guthrie, Pitt explained to the audience he had something important to say.
"I gotta say 'Hi' to my mom because she watches you every morning," Pitt said as he turned toward Guthrie.
Guthrie gave an "Awww" upon hearing what Pitt said. He turned back toward the camera and waved, then added, "To Jane Pitt." Guthrie also waved and said, "Hi, Mom!"
Before getting back to the business of the movie premiere, Pitt blew a kiss and said, "Love you, Mom."
When the clip aired on Today, co-hosts Craig Melvin and Carson Daly exchanged some fun banter about the moment. They said they loved Jane Pitt, too, and added that they were glad to know she was a loyal Today viewer.
Today show viewers thought the moment with Pitt was adorable.
"Love this. Brad thinking of his mom in Springfield. My hometown too," one comment on Facebook read.
Another fan wrote, "Sweet son!"
"Brad loves his momma I remember when he used to bring [her] as his date on the red carpet," added someone else.
"I love that at his age he still gets excited about making his mom smile. So cute," an additional Facebook comment read.
As TMZ noted, Pitt was known for being extremely close with his mother. She appeared with her son at public events from time to time, but otherwise was not one to seek out the spotlight.
