I don’t think you’ll see anyone refute the notion that this is an important year for Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams.
To that end, it is no surprise to see Chicago’s QB1 on a list of signal callers under the most pressure going into this season that ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky made. Any list of quarterbacks with something to prove in 2025 will feature Caleb Williams. There is simply no way around it. With that being said, this is what Orlovsky had to say about the Bears QB placing at the top of the list of the five who have the most to prove this season:

Words from Orlovsky:
“There is one guy who has more pressure on him than anybody in the NFL, Caleb Williams. You are also the guy. The golden child. The unbelievable athlete. The next Patrick Mahomes. You’ve got the best offensive mind of the past five, six, seven, eight seasons. A rebuilt offensive line. Plenty of dudes to throw the ball to. A first-round draft pick at tight end. It is go time for Caleb Williams. You have to go out and show that you are the talent, the player, and the future of the organization for a team and a place that has been desperately begging for it.”
It is worth noting that J.J. McCarthy, who will face the Bears in Week 1, also makes the cut. But Dan Orlovsky makes it sound like the future of this franchise hinges on how Caleb Williams performs. No pressure, young fella.

Whenever anyone talks about pressure in the sports realm, my mind immediately goes to what former Chicago Cubs Manager Joe Maddon said about pressure. And I find myself circling back to this quote (h/t Brett) from December 2015 about being “the target” in baseball:
“But that shouldn’t really alter the way we think. It shouldn’t alter our preparation. It shouldn’t alter anything except, I think, once you admit to it, then you kind of disarm it a bit. If you want to constantly push it back and say it’s not true, then you give it more power.”
Given that quote, you are probably wondering if Caleb Williams feels pressure going into this season. His answer might surprise you:
“Pressure is not a thing for me. I don’t think of it that way. It’s not my job to care what the outside noise is and things like that. My job is to take care of everything in here and go out there and play. I know we didn’t win as many games as we wanted to last year, but I didn’t go 20 (touchdowns) and 20 interceptions and things like that. So, you know, take it for what you want, but no pressure is prevalent. Pressure is a privilege. But you know the situation that I’m at. I don’t think I have pressure.”
Ultimately, I know Caleb Williams has pressure on him going into this year. He knows it, too. However, how one reacts to pressure is the story that will be worth writing. I look forward to seeing how it plays out.
