Fans of the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch - and judging by the movie's box office take, they are plentiful - can get excited, as its release date on Disney Plus has just been unveiled.
The film will officially debut on the streamer on Wednesday 3rd September 2025, meaning it has had a substantial theatrical window since its arrival in cinemas on 23rd May.
Lilo & Stitch has been a huge success, and is currently sitting on a gross of $1.025 billion. It is also currently the highest grossing American film of the year internationally, and when factoring in all movies, it only sits behind China's mega-hit Ne Zha 2.
Unsurprisingly, Disney is already at work developing a sequel to the live-action remake, with Deadline reporting that Chris Sanders, the writer of the original 2002 version of Lilo & Stitch and the voice of Stitch in both versions, is writing the upcoming film.
While the 2025 version of Lilo & Stitch was largely deemed to be a faithful recreation of the original, there were some notable changes, including the exclusion of the villainous Gantu.
Stitch was also less violent and destructive in the live-action version, with director Dean Fleischer Camp explaining why when speaking with Radio Times.
He said: "Things such as Stitch's level of destruction and violence... like, violent is too strong a word, but violence in general, can play very funny in animation.
"You can imagine a very funny car wreck on a highway, but I would challenge any live-action director to do that with real cars and real people, because you're just worried.
"And so, you know, we spent a lot of time trying to figure out how do we preserve the essential Stitchiness of Stitch and the destruction and the fun of the movie, while also navigating around those pitfalls?"
Lilo & Stitch is coming to Disney Plus on Wednesday 3rd September 2025.
