CHARLOTTE (PINPOINT WEATHER) -- The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Flash Flood Warning for Mecklenburg County, including the entire Charlotte metro area, as heavy rains continue to drench the region Tuesday morning.
The warning is in effect until 4:15 p.m. As of 10:31 a.m. Tuesday, radar and rain gauges show over 3 to 4 inches of rain have already fallen in southern parts of the county, and some spots, especially near Little Sugar Creek, have seen up to 5 inches.

More rain is still expected through early afternoon. The areas at greatest risk include:
Little Sugar Creek from 36th Street to Medical Center Drive, Hillsdale Ave, and Seneca Place Steele Creek near John Price Road, Arrowood Mobile Home Park, and Carowinds Blvd Briar Creek from Shamrock Drive to Independence Blvd to Colony RoadFlash flooding can be life-threatening, especially around streams, urban roads, and low-lying areas, the NWS said. The flooding is expected to impact homes, roads, and businesses, and could grow more severe if an additional 1–2 inches of rain fall, as predicted.
