Bethany Hamilton is making an urgent plea to dog owners everywhere.
After one of her sons was recently bitten by a dog, the pro surfer took to social media to send an important request to anyone who owns a dog with "poor" behavior.

"A couple of weeks ago, my son got bit by a dog," Hamilton, 35, wrote in a post shared to her Instagram Story on Monday, adding that the attack was "Not provoked" and "super random."
"The dog was on a leash even," she continued, while noting, "I'm feeling very disappointed in dogs and dog owners. I feel like the amount of unruly dogs nowadays is higher than ever."
Hamilton, who is a shark attack survivor, went on to encourage dog owners, "If you have mean dogs PLEASE leave them home. Also, if your dog is getting really old and grumpy, leave them home."
Hamilton also included a photo of her son's injury in the post, writing, "Wish it was me instead but glad it wasn't worse. Also glad it wasn't my toddler..."
The award-winning surfer was the victims of a shark attack in 2003, which caused her to lose her left arm. Just 13 years old at the time, Hamilton was surfing along a Hawaii beach when the incident occurred.
Now a mom of four, Hamilton—who still surfs and often advocates for practicing shark safety—wants dog owners to be more vigilant about their pet's behavior, particularly in terms of safety.
"I think society at large should have no tolerance for unruly dogs in particular," she added in her post, noting that she reported the dog involved in the attack "for the future safety of the local community."
