NFL running back Saquon Barkley admitted he was stunned to be named as part of President Donald Trump’s new council.
Barkley, 28, said he declined the offer made by the President earlier this year.
But the Philadelphia Eagles superstar was still name-checked on the sports council.
President Trump last week hosted a number of sports stars at the White House.
He relaunched the Presidential Fitness Test, aimed at improving the health and activity of America’s children.
Golfer Bryson DeChambeau and WWE icon Triple H were in attendance with New York Giants legend Lawrence Taylor.
Some more sports stars were named on the council by the President.
They include golf great Jack Nicklaus and hockey legend Wayne Gretzky.
And Barkley admitted he was surprised his name came up.
“I was definitely a little shocked when my name was mentioned,” he told ESPN on Monday.
“I’m assuming it’s something great, so I appreciate it but was a little shocked when my name was mentioned.
“A couple months ago, it was brought to my team about the council.
“I felt like I am going to be super busy.
“So me and my family thought it would probably be of best interest to not accept that.”
Barkley was part of the Eagles representation that attended the White House in April.
They were hosted by the President after winning Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, Louisiana in February.
Barkley joined more than 40 members of the team, including head coach Nick Sirianni.
