‘We’re going to prevent this from happening again’: Community leader responds to dog attack at Charlotte playground

CHARLOTTE, N.Y. – A woman and two children were hospitalized Friday after being bitten by a dog owned by a homeless man in Charlotte. The community is now working to ensure the man receives help while preventing future incidents.

News10NBC spoke with the homeless man, Jerry Frost, and community members about finding a solution.

“I’m stressed out. That’s all I got is them two dogs. That’s my family,” Frost said. “I mean, them dogs sleep with me.”

Rochester police reported that Frost’s dog attacked a 6-year-old girl, an 8-year-old boy, and a 21-year-old woman. All three were taken to the hospital and are expected to recover. The dogs have been quarantined by Rochester Animal Services for 10 days.

“They showed me no paperwork. I didn’t get no ticket or anything,” said Frost.

Jose Peo, president of the Charlotte Community Association, is reaching out to Frost to encourage the community to provide more help for the homeless and prevent similar events.

“Really, my job here is to represent the voice of the community,” Peo said. “And I want to talk to them directly and say, you know, what can we do to help you to get to that next level?”

Peo is calling on city and county law enforcement to work together to prevent future attacks.

“To the family that was impacted by these dogs, we’re going to prevent this from happening again,” Peo said. “We need to make sure that the county’s working with the city.”

City officials said they believe Frost has been living on public county land. Frost mentioned he plans to leave the area by Monday night.
