It's never too late! Tennis legend Billie Jean King announced recently that she's chasing a lifelong dream — to finish her university degree. In a joint post with her university of choice shared on Instagram, the 81-year-old said, "Can't imagine finishing up my degree anywhere else but Cal State LA."
King left the school in 1964 to play professional tennis. She went on to win 39 Grand Slam titles, help pass Title IX to even the playing field for female athletes, and become one of the first major sports figures to come out as gay in 1981. Soon she'll be adding college graduate to her impressive list of accomplishments.

She explained on Instagram that it's always "bothered" her that she didn't finish, and after making so much history herself, she'll be majoring in it. She started classes in the spring, and will be enrolled as a senior this fall. She told the Los Angeles Times, "I'm having a great time."
No word on if she'll go out for the tennis team, which practices on courts near a statue of the legend herself.
Fans are over-the-moon excited for her, and quickly chimed in to show their support. "You are amazing, and this story makes me smile!!!" wrote one admirer, while another added, "I love this. I'm guessing the pressure of all of those Wimbledon finals has prepared her for this. So much respect and love for her."

Others shared their own stories about going back to school later in life. One person shared, "My Mom was 71 when she finished her doctorate. It took her 11 years and not getting it was never an option for that life long learner! You’ve got this!" Another wrote, "My mom told me that my great grandfather felt similar to you @billiejeanking and went to finish his degree after about 50 years and he did it! He graduated the same year my mom did...his granddaughter. You've got this!"
The The Cal State LA Library account had a fun play on words, writing, "A history degree will SERVE you well and give you a big ADVANTAGE in life! we think you'll ACE your classes and LOVE your time as a golden eagle. we can't wait to see you RALLY on graduation day … we'll make a RACKET cheering for you from the audience!"
