DJ Lagway had Florida fans concerned when he was reported to be sporting a walking boot before camp, but he has resumed throwing and the starting QB’s outlook looks optimistic for the season.
The rising sophomore quarterback did not throw during spring practice as he dealt with a shoulder injury. Then the calf issue kept him out of the first day of camp. On Saturday, Lagway was back on the field looking more ready for the 2025 season. Keith Niebuhr of On3 Sports noted that Lagway was sharp in team throwing drills.
“His mobility looked to be good,” Niebuhr said on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning. “He threw the ball great to be honest with you.”
Lagway made the transition as the Gators’ full-time starter this offseason, after finishing with 1,915 passing yards, 12 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He’s far from a finished product, but the flashes of star potential are undeniable.
“Looking forward, again, it is going to be something they continue to monitor, but they believe — the school, the people close to him — that it’s going to be fine, going to be completely healed in the relatively near future.
“But we’ll see. That’s just what they think. That’s just what they hope. You never really know until it happens. You may think you’re going to be 100% healed in 2 days, but will you be?”
