A SEASONAL retailer is coming to take over some stores this month that were left behind by bankrupt competitors.
The company plans to open thousands of locations, with consumers ready to stock up on beloved items as summer nears its end.
October 31 is now less than 100 days away, and Spirit Halloween is getting ready for the influx of purchases for costumes, candy, decorations, and more.
Starting in August, the largest Halloween retailer in the country plans to open “more than 1,500 seasonal locations in strip centers and malls across North America,” according to its website.
Several hundred of the Spirit Halloween locations across the United States will fill vacant stores recently left behind by companies like Big Lots, Forever 21, Joann Fabrics, and more that have gone bankrupt.
Old K-Mart, Circuit City, Party City, Rite Aid, and 99 Cents Only spots will also be used.
Consumers can expect to see the Spirt Halloween locations officially open near the end of August, but merchandise is always available online year-round.
Spirt Halloween has a detailed map on its website that shows where stores are opening in August or afterward.
Eager shoppers can enter their ZIP code to find out the exact address their nearest Spirit Halloween will pop up.
According to a press release in June, the brand is also hiring about 50,000 seasonal employees to support the 1,500 new spots.
The retailers stores are always open temporarily for about 60 to 90 days leading up to Halloween, and are then rotated out again.
Spirit Halloween was also forced to cancel its grand opening event in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, at the end of May.
The retailer cited “internal disruptions and supply chain challenges” as the reasoning behind the delay and confirmed that the 1,500 stores would indeed still open in “mid-August for another killer season,” per a post on Instagram at the time.
SEASONAL SAVINGS
Other retail giants like The Home Depot, Target, and Walmart have already released Halloween collections.
It’s part of what’s been dubbed “Summerween” by some consumers and stores, as the preparations for the beloved October holiday always seem to get earlier every year.
Each is offering candy bags for under $4 and decorations for as low as $30.

Home Depot is specifically known for its large outdoor Halloween decorations, arguably none more than Skelly.
The iconic giant skeleton that stands at a whopping 12-feet-tall went viral in 2020 and has been a must-have item since.
It’s listed for $299 on the store’s website and comes with the option of pairing it with Skelly’s Cat, Skelly’s Dog, or Skelly’s Sitting Dog for additional costs of $199 a piece.
SKELLY SWITCH-UP
Except, this year, Home Depot’s offering consumers even more with the Ultra Skelly.
While it’s only about half the size as the original Skelly at 6.5 feet, it is equipped with servo motors to give it “lifelike movements,” per the product description.
Its arms, head, mouth, and torso can be moved through a mobile application, and there’s five pre-set voice recordings.
Customers can also create their own 30-second recordings or speak through Ultra Skelly in live mode with voice changing effects.
The five voice changing effects are Echo, High Pitch, Low Pitch, Alien, and Robot.
Ultra Skelly’s LED coloring can also be changed or put on pulsing or flashing modes for an extra spooky theme.
Discount retailers are also starting their Halloween offerings.
Dollar General recently revealed the truth behind its “Summerween” products as it “pushes merchandise” to clear shelves.
Dollar Tree has also sold decorations for as low as $3 in the past, a price nearly 80% cheaper than competitors like Walmart.
