Suranne Jones and Jodie Whittaker in first look at new ITV female fraudsters drama

ITV has unveiled a first look at its upcoming thriller Frauds, which stars screen icons Suranne Jones and Jodie Whittaker as former partners-in-crime brought back together for an ambitious final heist.

Bert (Jones) and Sam (Whittaker) have been estranged for a decade, but cross paths once again in the south of Spain, where the former gets to work on a scheme that could see them set for life – or destroyed.

Frauds marks the second series dreamt up by Jones and screenwriter Anne-Marie O'Connor, who previously collaborated on ITV family drama Maryland, which aired back in 2023.

The synopsis for Frauds teases: "As Sam has sought a low-key life, Bert’s release from a Spanish prison for compassionate reasons reignites her ambition for one final, significant score.

"On the pretext of one final, multi-million-pound art heist, Bert attempts to lure Sam out of retirement, but at what cost? Can Sam stay one step ahead of her former friend, who is clearly capable of treachery?

"Or will the push and pull of their toxic friendship see them both ruined before they are able to pull off the job?"

Giulia Gandini (The Split: Barcelona) is handling directing duties on the project, which was filmed on location in Spain, as seen in these set photos of the co-leads in a desolate spot as they face an unseen threat.

Whittaker recently made a cameo appearance in the latest Doctor Who finale, while her post-TARDIS projects have included prison thriller Time and hard-hitting factual drama Toxic Town.

Meanwhile, Jones has earned acclaim with a slew of recent hits, including the aforementioned Maryland, plus BBC One's Vigil and HBO's Gentlemen Jack, which came from Happy Valley screenwriter Sally Wainwright.

Frauds does not yet have a confirmed premiere date, but we'll bring you further details as they come in.

Frauds will air on ITV1 and ITVX later this year.
