Costanza, who previously served as the town’s assessor, is accused of breaking ethics laws by lowering his home’s assessment last year.

In a statement, the committee said, “As part of our candidate screening process, we conducted an internal investigation into the allegations. Upon the completion of our investigation, the committee unanimously concluded that the allegations presented were unsubstantiated.”
Costanza pleaded not guilty last month to misconduct charges. He said that when he began his role in 2024, there were thousands of errors in assessments, including his property, which led to him overpaying in taxes.
“Regarding my own home, I followed the same methodology as other properties and followed guidance from the Regional Director,” Costanza said. “Illegally derived assessment of my home.”
Costanza represented himself at his arraignment and is expected back in court sometime this month. He is set to face off against longtime Irondequoit Town Board member John Perticone in the upcoming election.

“During our candidate selection process, the Irondequoit Republican Committee was provided with information regarding allegations against town supervisor candidate Anthony Costanza. As part of our candidate screening process, we conducted an internal investigation into the allegations. Upon the completion of our investigation, the committee unanimously concluded that the allegations presented were unsubstantiated.
First: That Mr. Costanza had an ethics complaint filed against him for his actions as town assessor; specifically, the complaint addressed the action of lowering the assessed value of his home: Successfully resolved, unanimous vote.
Second: that Mr. Costanza, in his capacity as town assessor, engaged in personal bias when choosing which town members would have their assessments reduced: Successfully resolved, unanimous vote.
Third: that Mr. Costanza willfully concealed the above issues from the town committee in order to secure the nomination as town supervisor candi Successfully resolved, unanimous vote.
The committee is publicizing the report of our internal investigation in order to ensure the residents of Irondequoit receive the facts regarding these allegations. The committee stands behind Anthony’s actions as being both legal and ethical, and we are confident that Anthony will be vindicated by the judicial process.”
