Two people were stabbed after they tried to deescalate an argument between a shopper and a custodial worker at a mall in Carson on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 3.
Sheriff’s deputies responded at 2:10 p.m. and detained someone accused of stabbing and injuring two people at the SouthBay Pavilion Mall, 20700 Avalon Blvd., according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Tracy Koerner.
Investigators learned that the suspect got in an argument with a custodial worker in a mall bathroom. The argument moved to a public area of the mall, when two people stepped in and tried to deescalate the situation.
At that point, the argument turned into a physical fight, and the suspect stabbed the two people multiple times, Koerner said.
A third person threw a chair at the suspect to deter them before deputies arrived and detained the suspect.
The two stabbing victims were taken to a hospital, where they were treated for serious injuries that aren’t believed to be life-threatening, Koerner said. Officials said the custodial worker didn’t report any injuries.
SouthBay Pavilion Mall didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
The investigation was ongoing.
