Kalen DeBoer isn’t worried about Alabama freshman wide receiver Lotzeir Brooks and his ability to get back on the field pretty soon.
Despite Brooks having a boot on his foot while riding a stationary bike during Saturday’s fall camp practice, DeBoer told reporters after Sunday’s practice that he expected Brooks to return soon.
“It won’t be anything long term or anything like that,” Kalen DeBoer told reporters on Sunday. “Just a little bit of recovery here. I don’t know if it’s day-to-day, but it’s not going to be something that’s extended.”
Brooks wasn’t seen at all at practice on Sunday. He was in full uniform during the first 2 days of fall camp on Wednesday and Thursday. Alabama didn’t practice on Friday, and then Brooks wore a black non-contact jersey on Saturday while wearing that boot and riding the bike.
DeBoer and the Crimson Tide are hoping that Brooks can have an immediate impact this fall. He’s a speedy wideout at 5-foot-9, 191 pounds, and his agility should also be a help to the Alabama passing game.
From what DeBoer said on Sunday, he’s not concerned that this injury during the opening few days of fall camp should hamper Brooks’s ability to get back on the field and develop a rhythm. Brooks stood out during the A-Day spring game, making several catches, including a touchdown against Alabama’s 2nd- and 3rd-string defenders.
Alabama will open the season against Florida State on the road in Week 1.
