‘Too much’ – Sophie Cunningham calls out WNBA’s players over physicality against superstar Fever teammate Caitlin Clark

WNBA star Sophie Cunningham has called out the league’s players for being seemingly overly physical with superstar Indiana Fever teammate Caitlin Clark.

The 28-year-old didn’t mince words in defense of the two-time All-Star Clark.

Cunningham has been one of the quickest risers in popularity in the WNBA.

She teamed up with reality television star and friend West Wilson for the first episode of the duo’s Show Me Something podcast on Wednesday.

During the podcast, Cunningham told her side of the story in the now-infamous scuffle she had with Connecticut Sun’s Jacy Sheldon in June.

But first, she defended Clark against her alleged treatment by the league’s players.

“You have seen players in our league try to toughen up Caitlin,” Cunningham told West on the show.

“Even when I wasn’t on her team, I know the talks that [the Phoenix Mercury] had in the locker room of, like… ‘We’re going to show her what the W really is.’

“You know what I mean? And, I get it to a certain extent, and every rookie coming into the league, that’s how you’re going to treat them.

“But there’s just more for her.”

“It’s her second year, and now being on her team and seeing it, I’m like, ‘What are people doing?’

“Actually… it’s just too much, too much…. I’m over it, and if I’m saying it’s too much, then it’s probably too much.”

Cunningham also confirmed her altercation with Sheldon was retaliation for a skirmish earlier in the game between Clark and Sheldon.

Clark appeared to be appreciative of Cunningham backing her.

“I think she was like, ‘Finally!’,” Cunningham said of Clark’s reaction after the game in the locker room.

Clark, however, has missed 14 games due to numerous injuries throughout the year.

But Cunningham turned heads when she scolded anyone who tried to argue that Clark’s not the face of the WNBA.

“When people try to argue that she’s not the face of our league or if our league would be where we’re at without her, you’re dumb as s***,”

    “You’re literally dumb as f***.”

Cunningham’s podcast will feature weekly guests.
