Glorious Goodwood talkSPORT betting tips – Best racing bets and expert advice for day four at Goodwood

Day four of Glorious Goodwood spearheads a busy day on Friday with Flat racing also at Bath, Musselburgh, Newcastle, Newmarket and Southwell while the mixed meeting at Galway provides its usual thrills and spills.

The Group 2 King George Qatar Stakes headlines the Goodwood card with the Coral Golden Mile, one of the hottest handicaps of the Flat season, also one that catches the eye.

Our tipster, Peter Entwistle, has a trio of selections on the South Downs card including one in the feature race, one in the Golden Mile, and another in the finale.

    2.30 Goodwood – Fifth Column @ 11/2 3.05 Goodwood – Asfoora @ 15/8 4.55 Goodwood – Yabher @ 6/1

    2.30 Goodwood – Fifth Column @ 11/2

Fifth Column went without a victory in four runs as a juvenile but a gelding operation over the winter has transformed his fortunes and he was gaining his third success from four starts in 2025 when landing a hot Newmarket handicap at the July meeting, clocking a fast time in the process.

Indeed, the Gosdens’ improving son of Kingman could easily be 4-4 for this term as he “won” his race on the far side when a fine seventh of 30 in Royal Ascot’s Britannia last month only to find himself in the wrong group.

He gets into this highly prestigious handicap with just a 3lb penalty for that victory at HQ and aided by a low draw he looks to hold strong claims.

As befitting a race of this nature there are a whole host of dangers, headed up by the handily-weighted duo Greek Order and Arisaig who both have handy single-figure berths too on this turning track.

But Fifth Column has more scope for further progress and can gain his biggest win yet.

    3.05 Goodwood – Asfoora @ 15/8

The King George Qatar Stakes has been won by some top speedsters over the years, most notably Baataash, who captured this prize for four years running from 2017 to 2020, and Australian sprinter Asfoora looks ready to add her name to the roll of honour.

Harry Dwyer’s mare went down by the narrowest of margins in this 12 months ago when not enjoying the smoothest of passages and can make amends this time around.

Asfoora arrives on the back of a promising fifth of 20 in the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot when she went without a prep run and faded late on (her first run for two months) after travelling smoothly for much of the way.

Oisin Murphy again takes the ride and there’s no doubting she is the clear form pick.

Frost At Dawn, She’s Quality and Big Mojo all command plenty of respect but this multiple Group winner in Australia looks the way to go.

    4.55 Goodwood – Yabher @ 6/1

Goodwood’s card ends with a fiercely competitive 3-y-o handicap run over an extended 11f and William Haggas’ Yabher looks the one to side with.

Yabher looked a fine prospect when making a winning debut at Doncaster last autumn but his progress really stalled when sent handicapping in the spring, and he was gelded after coming in an underwhelming ninth at Haydock.

Returning from a two-month break, he got back on the up though when runner-up at Redcar before taking another step forward to land a 1m2f Sandown handicap last month.

On both of those occasions this son of Sea The Stars was strong at the finish and there’s little doubt this longer distance will really suit.

For one who is a half-brother to two smart winners he remains on a workable mark of 87 and makes plenty of appeal.

Roger Varian’s Munsif and Harry Eustace’s Sea Of Kings also have better days ahead of them and must enter calculations too in what promises to be a fascinating finale.
