With the exciting new developments rooted around Amazon's James Bond reboot, it's only natural to wonder which actor the studio has in mind to take over the role of Britain's famed titular character.
As average viewers speculate over who exactly will step into the trademark tuxedo of 007, an apparent frontrunner for the role has seemingly shot down any possibility he'll star as James Bond in a future film.
Speaking with Collider, 35-year-old Taron Egerton – best known for his lead roles in Rocketman, Testament of Youth and Eddie the Eagle – openly addressed the rumors circling around his casting as the clandestine government agent.
“I don’t think I’m a good choice for it," Egerton bluntly said. "I think I’m too messy for that."
In spite of his love for the franchise itself, Egerton – who famously won a Golden Globe for his performance as rock legend Sir Elton John in 2019's Rocketman – asserted his belief that there were younger actors more suitable for the part.
“I really love James Bond and particularly Daniel Craig’s tenure," the actor continued. "But I think I wouldn’t be good at it, and I think there’s so many cool, younger actors who would be great for it. I think it would be wasted on me, probably.”
In the past, Egerton first made a name for himself starring in the James Bond-inspired action series, Kingsman.
In spite of the obvious similarities between each franchise, however, Egerton viewed the James Bond mantle as an all-encompassing role: one that required plenty of dedication, focus and commitment on an actor's part.
“It’s possibly not quite the thing that would make me happiest," Egerton said. "I do think it’s a big old undertaking, it kind of consumes your life, a role like that.”
