PHELPS, N.Y. — Thursday marks the first day of Sauerkraut Weekend at the Phelps Community Center in Ontario County.
The festival started as Phelps was one of the largest producers of sauerkraut in world, according to the Phelps website.
This year’s will feature various crafts, vendors, carnival games, rides, food, music, and more. See below a guide to some of the events happening throughout Sauerkraut weekend.
Kraut Krawl
From 4-8 p.m. on Friday, adults 21 and older can sample alcoholic beverages from various local breweries and more. Some of the places participating include Iron Smoke Distillery, Smokin Tails Distillery, and Crafty Ales and Lagers.

5k & 20k Krauter Race
On Saturday, there will be the 5k & 20k Krauter Race. The 20k race starts at 8 a.m., with the option of an earlier start at 7 a.m., and the 5k will start at 8:30 a.m.
Awards will be handed out to all participants. Participants will also get a timing chip, post-race food, and a can of silver floss sauerkraut.

“Kraut ‘n’ About” Parade
On Saturday at 4 p.m., there will be a parade, with the theme “Kraut ‘n’ About.” The parade starts at the corner of Main and South Wayne Streets, and will end at the driveway to carnival grounds off Ontario Street at the firehouse.

The festival opens Thursday at 5 p.m. Thursday, and will go until 10 p.m. The last day of the festival is Sunday. See below the hours for each day.
