Kate Middleton Rekindles the Love She Left Behind for Prince William

Kate Middleton has reunited with a former love, one that captured her heart long before Prince William. The Princess of Wales added her expertise to an exciting new project that marked a return to a passion she left behind when she first stepped into royal life.

Before marrying Prince William in 2011, Kate studied Art History at the University of St. Andrews, graduating in 2005. Therefore, her latest project marked a return to the love she had for the art world before William and the royal family entered the picture.

Following her visit to the Victoria & Albert East Storehouse in June, Kate selected a handful of personal favorites for a mini art display titled Makers and Creators. The showcase is part of the center’s immersive, self-guided experience, open to the public through early 2026, according to PEOPLE Magazine. The royal has been a patron of the organization since 2012.

The outlet reports that the princess worked alongside the museum's curatorial team to gather a selection of objects to display from across V&A’s collections. Kate's display is one of more than 100.

An Instagram post, shared by The Prince and Princess of Wales, showed how the display came together. Kate was an integral part of the process and carefully picked the pieces that ultimately became part of her curation.

Middleton’s "Makers and Creators" includes Oliver Messel’s costume for the Fairy of the Woodland Glades, worn by Diana Vere in The Royal Ballet’s 1960 production of “The Sleeping Beauty.” It also includes a watercolor study of a forest glade by Beatrix Potter and a childhood photograph album belonging to the artist’s father, Rupert Potter.

She added a hand-quilted bedcover made in Wales around 1830-1840. A Morris & Co furnishing screen designed by William Morris’s assistant J.H.Dearle in the mid-1880s is also part of the mini display PEOPLE reports.

Artnet shared text, written by Kate, which appears alongside her display. “A collection of objects can create a narrative, both about our past and as inspiration for the future. This display celebrates our past makers and creators, and illustrates how much historic objects can influence fashion, design, film, art, and creativity today.”

This exhibit is not the first time the princess has curated an art collection. In 2022, she selected a series of images for the exhibit “Victorian Giants: The Birth of Art Photography” at London’s National Portrait Gallery.
