I am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, on X (BN and my personal), and on Bluesky (BN and my personal) – for 40 hours straight, past MLB’s July 31 Trade Deadline until 9pm CT, thanks to your generous donations to Make-A-Wish. I’ll be doing recaps on the process throughout the day(s), but you’ll also see normal posting (Bullets, news, Pre-Gamin’, EBS, etc.), as well as a significant uptick in rumor/trade posts.

News and Rumors Since the Last Check-In:
Whew, man, it just kept going! And the Cubs made their first two moves, trading for Michael Soroka and Andrew Kittredge.
Of course, you also had Eugenio Suarez going to the Mariners (sigh). Ramon Urias went to the Astros. Steven Matz to the Red Sox. Zack Littell to the Reds. The Padres maybe trying to get Mason Miller. The Astros maybe trying to get Sandy Alcantara.
Most Interesting Tidbit Since the Last Recap:
For our purposes it’s obviously the Cubs’ moves and the Suarez trade, but there’s also just the volume of movement.
I mean, the individual deals obviously are significant, and the rumors, too. But just the fact of SO many trades suddenly exploding today went far beyond what’s typical on the day before the deadline:
updated with less than 17 hours to go…counted all the deals that appear on track to be completed based on reports, even if they aren't official quite yetclearly still a ton left to happen on Thursday (or overnight…)A's, Guardians, Padres last teams left with 0 trades t.co/wL2apHETrp pic.twitter.com/ZuRMRM6YNn
— Céspedes Family BBQ (@CespedesBBQ) July 31, 2025Current Thoughts About the Chicago Cubs’ Trade Deadline Strategy/Execution:
Bit of a “we’ll see” situation, isn’t it? The Soroka trade and the Kittredge trade are both totally fine, but they would make a lot more sense – or be a lot more compelling – as parts of a slightly larger set of moves. If the Cubs were just getting these guys today to make sure they had at least SOMETHING in place, and maybe bought a little leverage for their talks on the bigger targets tomorrow? Then I like it a lot.
Current Tiredness Level:
Definitely tired. This is the limit of when I might stay up at home for a very late game, or a super rare late night with friends. I almost never even go past midnight at this point. I’m old.
Current Beverage/Stimulant of Choice:
Back to Coke Zero. Trying to decide if I should have a little ice cream as a treat, or if that’ll be kinda heavy and make me feel really tired in an hour or two.
Current Emotional Status:
Grateful, actually. So much stuff happened over the last few hours, and I appreciate the burst of energy it provided!
Random Thought Passing Through My Mind:
This is the time in the Blogathon where my past back issues haunt me a bit – it’s a very, very long day of tense writing. Lots of sitting. Lots of standing. But no laying down for a physical reset. Problem is, if I lay down to rest my back, I get reeeally sleepy. Can’t have that.
