Welcome to the Chicago Cubs, Mike. And I guess we’re going with Mike, not Michael.
The #Cubs today acquired RHP Michael Soroka from the Washington Nationals for minor-league OF Christian Franklin and minor-league INF Ronny Cruz.
Officially official. The Cubs have their first new pitcher of the Trade Deadline. Here’s hoping more are coming. That’s the expectation, anyway.
Pending the rest of this trading period, Soroka figures to slot into the currently-vacant spot in the rotation that had been filled by openers, Ben Brown, and Chris Flexen. If and when Jameson Taillon and Javier Assad are ready to return, they’ll cross that bridge then. Maybe the Cubs will have added some other starting pitcher, too. Maybe Soroka replaces Colin Rea at that point. Maybe Soroka pitches out of the bullpen.
All the thoughts on the Soroka trade are here, if you missed any of it. Lot’s to say. Lot’s to think. And more yet to say and think in the days and weeks ahead ….
