He’s a command and control guy who won’t strike many out, but also won’t give up any walks. It’s an improvement over what the Reds have as far as rotation depth currently, and clearly they’re going for it this year by adding at the margins.
I’m certainly curious to see what the return is going to be, given what Michael Soroka just cost the Cubs. The funny thing is, Littell has had much better results than Soroka this year, but the peripherals favor Soroka by a mile. Of the two, I’d certainly rather have Soroka as a two-month rental, for what that’s worth.
As for the Rays and the light selling, unlike most teams, you can’t assume this trade means a big sell-off is coming. They did just lose a heartbreaker to the Yankees to fall a game under .500, but sometimes they buy and sell when they’re in this range. If it’s a bigger sell-off, then you certainly would wonder about them shopping more arms, and potentially a bat like Yandy Diaz.
