Something to watch closely tonight – well, and really for the rest of the season potentially – as Shohei Ohtani left his outing tonight with the athletic trainer.

— Talkin’ Baseball (@TalkinBaseball_) July 31, 2025Ohtani did stay in the game as the DH, but his night over for pitching, obviously. And if there’s any discomfort whatsoever, I’m sure the Dodgers aren’t going to risk losing Ohtani the batter going forward.
As far as Trade Deadline impact goes, I don’t know that there is much. Even if the Dodgers now lose Ohtani as a pitcher going forward, they were already in the market for upgrades in the rotation and in the bullpen. I guess it’s possible the urgency ticks up slightly, but I am pretty sure they were going to be significant competition in these markets anyway.
And, of course, we don’t actually know whether Ohtani is seriously injured or not. He’s clearly still fine to hit, at least.
