Wyndham Championship 2025 betting preview
The Wyndham Championship may not attract the strongest field but if you’re looking for jeopardy, it’s always a good place to find it.
Why? The tournament acts as the final event of the PGA Tour’s Regular season and only the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings will advance to Playoffs – a three-event dash to the line that ends with the Tour Championship in Atlanta.
As it stands, Germany’s Matti Schmid occupies the 70th and final slot while Dane Nicolai Hojgaard, fresh from 14th in The Open at Royal Portrush, is 71st and heads the list of players looking to force their way in.
England’s Aaron Rai won this event in 2024 with 18-under and compatriot, in-form Matt Fitzpatrick, leads the betting this time at 18/1 even though his only start here was seven years ago (tied 36th).
Sedgefield is a short 7,131-yard par 70 with Bermuda greens that rewards accuracy rather than length.
Rai was an ideal fit last year although his form heading back is far less impressive than it was 12 months ago.
Wyndham Championship 2025 betting tips
Make it Matt Wallace
It’s less than two months until the Ryder Cup tees off at Bethpage Black in New York although Matt Wallace could probably tell you how many hours there is to go.
The Englishman admits it’s an absolute obsession of his to make the team. It’s what drives him to get out of bed and bash balls on the practice range.
And after just missing out in the past, the lure of making Luke Donald’s line-up is having a positive effect.
Wallace was 17th in the US PGA and 23rd in the US Open and looked set to bank another strong finish in the majors when sitting 14th after 54 holes of The Open.
He slumped to a 75 to drop back but there were no such Sunday wobbles at last week’s 3M Open where he fired an excellent closing 64 to finish third.
Wallace shot two 66s at Sedgefield last year when 28th and, on current form and with that huge incentive, he’s an intriguing bet this week.
History says the pressure will inspire rather than inhibit so back the Londoner each-way at 66/1 with BetVictor (1/4 odds, 5 places).
Back Matt Wallace each way at 66/1 with BetVictor
Lucas Glover to outscore Kurt Kitayama
This week’s best 72-hole match bet is Lucas Glover at 20/21 with bet365 to beat Kurt Kitayama.
Kitayama finished like a train to win last week’s 3M Open but this course doesn’t suit the big hitter anywhere near as much. Indeed, he missed the cut on his only start in 2024.
Glover won this tournament two years ago and his straight hitting (10th in Driving Accuracy this season) is rewarded on this short, twisting track.
The American veteran is also in great form after ninth and fifth in his latest two regular PGA Tour events and 23rd at Royal Portrush.
Tip Lucas Glover to beat Kurt Kitayama at 20/21 with bet365
Jackson Koivun for Top 10
Jackson Koivun – note the name.
Last season the 20-year-old became the first man in history to land all four major collegiate awards.
He’s now top of the Amateur World Golf Rankings and is already making a splash on the PGA Tour with 11th and sixth in two July starts.
Strike while the iron’s hot and back Koivun for Top 10 at 15/2 at Unibet.
