The 9-year-old took .85 off the former record time of 1:08.81, set by fellow Novaquatics swimmer Ella Eastin back in 2008.

Wang’s performance bumped her up to #3 on the all-time top 100 ranking in the girls’ 10 & under age group and marked the fastest time in the girls’ 10 & under 100 fly this season, a full three seconds ahead of the #2 performance. Coming into the meet, Wang had a lifetime best time of 1:09.04.

On top of her record-breaking performance, Wang won all eight of her events at the meet. In addition to the 100 fly, she prevailed in the 50 fly (31.76), 50 back (34.64), 100 back (1:14.12), 200 free (2:20.07) and 200 IM (2:36.09). She also helped her team to victories in the 200 free relay (2:07.02) and 200 medley relay (2:20.81).

San Clemente Aquatic Team’s Macie Weingarten shone in the girls’ 13-14 100 fly, winning the event in a lifetime best time of 1:03.43. Her performance knocked 1.08 off of her previous best time and launched her up to #22 on the ranking of top times this season in her age group. Weingarten was the only swimmer in the field to go under 1:03 at the meet.

Lewis Bateman from the Sandpipers of Nevada turned in a stellar race in the boys’ 1500 free, winning in 16:35.61 to knock an astonishing 23.8 seconds off of his personal best. He has made huge strides over the past season, as his lifetime best is now almost a full minute faster than where it was a year ago (17:29.19). Bateman’s performance marked the 12th-fastest time in the 13-14 boys’ 1500 so far this season.

    Other Notable Performers

Wang’s Novaquatics teammate Julia Xiong, who picked up three individual victories. She won the 10 & under 100 free (1:05.73 – PB), 400 free (4:59.32 – PB) and 100 breast (1:25.38). Xiong’s performances in the 100 free and 400 free bumped her up to 4th on the ranking of top times this season in her age group for both events. Annabelle Hayes of Irvine Novaquatics posted a strong performance in the 11-12 400 free, throwing down a huge lifetime best time of 4:42.71 to knock almost five seconds off of her previous personal best (4:47.50) that she just set a week earlier. That swim propelled Hayes up the national rankings to #20 this season in the 11-12 girls’ 400 free. She also picked up victories in the 50 back (33.04 – PB) and 100 back (1:11.66), as well as taking 2nd in both the 200 free (2:17.13) and 200 IM (2:32.45) and 3rd in the 50 fly (31.21). Irvine Novaquatics’ Sahiel Pai racked up six wins over the course of the weekend, prevailing by a significant margin in his two individual event victories despite not swimming any personal best times. He won the 11-12 50 breast by three seconds, posting a 31.50 to surge ahead of runner-up Gui Falleiros Friggi’s 34.50, and claimed the 100 breast title by nearly four seconds in 1:09.52 ahead of Jonathan Ko (1:13.46). Pai also helped his team to victory in the 200 and 400 free relays and the 200 and 400 medley relays. Another top performer from Irvine Novaquatics was Kevin Zhang, who enjoyed a tremendous meet that saw him post lifetime best times in six events. The 11-year-old’s top swims came in the distance events, as he dropped 14.49 in the 400 free (4:49.53), 12.63 in the 800 free (10:00.21) and 19.13 in the 1500 free (18:47.50). Zhang’s performance in the 1500 bumped him up to 36th on the ranking of top times this season in the boys’ 11-12 age group.
