(QUEEN CITY NEWS) - A Charlotte man is facing a first-degree murder charge after police say he savagely beat his roommate to death during an argument that started over a pack of cigarettes.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to an apartment in the 4600 block of Coronado Drive shortly before 11 a.m. on Monday, July 28. When officers arrived, they found a man unresponsive and badly injured on the living room floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Medic.

The 911 call came from William Francis Bordsen, 45, who told dispatchers he’d been in a fight with his roommate and admitted he “kicked his a** pretty good,” according to court records.

During an interview with CMPD detectives, Bordsen reportedly claimed the fight started around 4 a.m. when his intoxicated roommate entered his bedroom and asked for cigarettes. Bordsen said he refused, and that’s when things reportedly got physical.

Bordsen admitted to punching the victim in the face and head multiple times, then grabbing a box fan and using it as a weapon to strike him repeatedly in the head, court records stated.

After the victim collapsed, Bordsen said he continued to kick him in the stomach and face. Court documents state he later told police those final blows "weren’t needed" and expressed regret.

    Evidence found on cell phone

Detectives noted in their report that Bordsen allowed them to search his phone, where they found videos and photos taken about six hours before he called 911.

In the video, authorities said the victim is still alive but clearly injured, lying in the same position where his body was later found. Bordsen can be heard in the videos speaking to the man in a "derogatory" tone, according to court documents.

Bordsen was arrested on Monday and charged with felony first-degree murder. His bond has been set at $400,000. He remains in the Mecklenburg County jail.
