MONTECITO, Calif. - The usually clean Montecito beaches were tainted by mysterious tar blobs over the weekend and into Monday morning.
At least one environmental source believes it is from a natural seep that is getting directed through currents and higher tides to the Montecito coast.
Many of the natural seeps exist off of Isla Vista and Summerland.
Some people going to the beach who are not paying attention are getting their feet and shoes soiled. It usually takes some baby oil or a similar substance and a lot of time to clean it all off.
Heal the Ocean is investigating and taking part in a clean up effort.
More details are expected to come from the investigation on Tuesday.
