The Arizona Cardinals announced on Monday they’ve launched the Arizona Cardinals Foundation, which is dedicated to supporting those with special needs.
The foundation team will focus on helping individuals and families with “intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs), including autism, Down syndrome, traumatic brain injuries and cerebral palsy.”
The Arizona Cardinals Foundation is replacing the previously known “Cardinals Charities” and will become the central organization for all of the Cardinals’ charitable contributions.
“For the last 35 years, we’ve had the Cardinals Charities and Cardinals Charities has done so much for so many, but in thinking about what we should be doing and some of the things that have happened over the last 10 to 15 years, you think about the number of people that are living with special needs, the children that are growing up and now becoming adults,” Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill told Arizona Sports’ Wolf & Luke on Monday.
“We felt like what we need to do is, we need to not only rebrand, but restructure Cardinals Charities so we’re going to exclusively be focused on funding organizations that benefit people that are suffering from special needs.”

One of the main pillars of the foundation is the implementation of four cornerstone beneficiaries which will each receive “a three-year commitment from the foundation to fund new and innovative programs that expand services, promote inclusion and create equal opportunities for those living with an IDD.”
The four beneficiaries are the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC), Barrow Neurological Foundation, Special Olympics Arizona and Treasure House.
Fans can contribute to the foundation by participating in the Cardinals’ 50/50 raffles at home games, with all raised funds going toward the foundation.

“This fall, we’re going to announce a major fundraiser, which will happen in the spring, and we’ll give everyone plenty of information and time to get signed up,” Bidwill said. “That will be something for fans in the community but also [something] corporate Arizona can get behind. We expect to raise a lot of money and put it into a handful of organizations that will be able to make a huge difference in people’s lives.”
