News of Alexander Isak’s omission from Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Singapore was quickly followed by reports that their star striker has expressed a desire to explore other options outside of the northeast of England this summer.
Three years on from his £60m move to Tyneside from Real Sociedad, Isak has established himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier League and the world, returning 62 goals and 11 assists from his 109 appearances in a black and white shirt.
The 25-year-old’s goals has helped fire the Magpies into the Champions League for the second time in three seasons, but it seems at this stage of his career the Swede is looking for pastures new, with some of Europe’s biggest clubs having long been interested in the striker.
Liverpool are the club who have expressed the most interest this summer in signing the striker, having originally enquired last week about his availability, only to be told by Newcastle that he was not for sale.
The Reds subsequently turned their attention to Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, whom they have since signed for £82m, but it’s believed the Merseyside club would still be interested in purchasing Isak despite now having the highly rated young Frenchman.
Even with their new striker the Reds are lacking in striker department, with only two recognised strikers in the squad, including Darwin Nunez, who appears to be on his way out of the club this summer.

There have also been rumours linking Isak with a move to Al Hilal, whose current first choice striker, former Newcastle star Aleksandar Mitrovic, only has a year remaining on his contract and is being a linked with a move away from the Arabian peninsula.
Chelsea are priced as third favourites to sign Isak, but have already spent upwards of £200m this summer, including £86m on strikers, so signing the Swede, who scored 27 goals in all competitions last season, for a nine figure fee might not be realistic at this stage in time.
Arsenal’s need for a new striker has been well documented but news of Isak’s wish to leave the north east might have come too late for any interest from the Gunners, who have recently finalised a move to sign the in demand Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres in that position.
