A person of interest was in custody on Sunday after hateful symbols were spray-painted on at least four buildings in the city’s Little Village neighborhood days earlier, authorities said.
The community center “Latinos Progresando” posted a picture on Facebook on Saturday, July 19, showing the swastika someone spray-painted on its door. According to police, the building was one of three vandalized with spray paint in the 2700 block of West Cermak Road near South Washtenaw Avenue.
A building on South Central Park Avenue near 25th Street was also defaced at around the same time. Chicago police said part of exterior wall was vandalized with spray paint.
In an update Sunday night, Chicago police said a suspect was in custody but didn’t provide additional details.
Detectives were continuing to investigate.
