Arizona Cardinals cornerback Starling Thomas V is out for the season after going down with an ACL injury on Day 3 of training camp, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
During the final period of 11-on-11s on Friday, Thomas leapt up for a pass and came down awkwardly.
He got up under his own power but rode a cart into the locker room.
Thomas marked the second Cardinal to leave on a cart after linebacker J.J. Russell went down Thursday after colliding with rookie safety Kitan Crawford.
Russell was transported to a local hospital for head and neck injury evaluation but has since returned to the team and is in concussion protocol.
Before Friday’s injury, Thomas had been getting a hefty amount of first-team reps in a rotation with Max Melton and rookie Will Johnson.
If he has to miss any time, that opens the door for more reps with the 1s for both Melton and Johnson. Rookie Denzel Burke and veteran Kei’Trel Clark could also be among those getting extra looks, too.
Since joining the team as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2023, Thomas has carved out a nice role behind 29 games played (22 starts).
Across that span, he’s recorded 85 tackles, 11 passes defensed and a forced fumble.
A diamond in the rough, Thomas entered camp very much in the mix to start, with Melton and Johnson also in the discussion.
