A person has died and southbound Interstate 57 was closed near suburban Country Club Hills after a crash Sunday morning.
According to Illinois State Police, the crash occurred on the roadway between Interstate 80 and Vollmer Road at approximately 4:07 a.m.
After an initial crash involving two vehicles, one of the drivers got out of their vehicle and was struck by a passing motorist, police said.
In the aftermath of the second collision, one person was pronounced dead at the scene, while another was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Illinois State Police say that the roadway remains closed between I-80 and Vollmer Road on Sunday morning, with the on-ramp from I-80 to I-57 also closed as a result of the investigation.
It is unclear when the roadway will reopen.
