July 27 – August 3, 2025 (pool swimming) Singapore, Singapore World Aquatics Championships Arena LCM (50m) Meet Central How To Watch SwimSwam Preview Index Entry Book Live Results Live Recaps Prelims: Day 1 Finals: Day 1He may not have landed on the men’s 400m freestyle podium on day one of the 2025 World Championships but 26-year-old Victor Johansson notched a new Swedish national record in Singapore.
Racing in the final of the men’s 400m free, Johansson stopped the clock at a time of 3:44.68 to reap the 4th place position behind winner Lukas Märtens of Germany (3:42.35), silver medalist Sam Short of Australia (3:43.37) and bronze medalist Kim Woomin of South Korea (3:42.60).
Johansson’s time overtook the previous Swedish national record of 3:45.87 he put on the books at the 2024 World Championships. There in Doha, he placed 6th so he bumped himself up a couple of slots during tonight’s main event.
His effort this evening also represents his first-ever foray under the 3:45 barrier so that’s a nice feather in his cap to kick off his Worlds campaign.
Johansson’s New Swedish Record – 3:44.68 Johanssons Old Swedish Record – 3:45.87 54.17 54.56 56.82 57.18 57.28 57.41 56.41 56.71Johansson swam for the University of Alabama and the University of Southern California in the United States’ NCAA.
He is also set to race the 800m and 1500m freestyle events at this competition. Johansson owns the national records in those events as well, in 7:47.04 and 14:58.59, respectively.
