Australia 26-29 British & Irish Lions
MELBOURNE CRICKET GROUND – The British & Irish Lions fought back from an 18-point deficit to clinch the series win after Hugo Keenan’s last-gasp try sealed a thrilling victory in the second Test against Australia.
An inspired Australia had the Lions on the ropes in the first half, taking a 23-5 lead thanks to tries from James Slipper, Jake Gordon and Tom Wright – with Dan Sheehan’s try the visitors’ solitary score before the 30-minute mark.
The deficit woke the Lions up and they roared back, crucially before half-time, as Tom Curry and Huw Jones both crossed within three minutes to bring the gap down to six points by the break.
An Aussie penalty took the hosts clear of a score, but again the Lions bounced back with Tadhg Beirne’s converted try setting up a blockbuster final 20 minutes with the score 26-24.
As 90,000 supporters held their breath, Keenan’s late score in the corner required a check but was eventually given to huge cheers from the travelling fans.
