Merle Dandridge is getting ready to knock out a long-time "bucket list item," and fans are rallying around her as she prepares for the "life changing experience."
The Station 19 alum, who recently concluded a run as Persephone in Hadestown on Broadway, is set to run the New York City Marathon for the first time this November, supporting Broadway Cares as she marks the 25th anniversary of her Broadway debut.
Dandridge took to Instagram with a selfie-style video to share the sweet history behind her upcoming accomplishment, inspired by the physical therapist she saw after she broke her wrist in a rollerblading accident shortly after moving to NYC in 1998.
"I got to hear her journey to the starting line step by step. So, of course, I had to go check out the race," she recalled. "It is STILL one of my all-time favorite events to behold. The inspiration I gleaned that day propelled me to my first acting job a few weeks later and I haven’t slowed up yet."
The Last of Us star, who recently celebrated another milestone, her 50th birthday, underwent another surgery back in December for her knee. "So, it was a physical feat to GET to the [Hadestown] stage. But I DID IT!!" she cheered. During her run in the musical, she helped fundraise for Broadway Cares Equity Fights Aids, a charity that contributes to countless causes affecting the theater community and beyond.
"Come with me, Friends. Follow my journey. I keep pushing through my ceilings, crushing my 'upper limits'. It’s changing my life and, hopefully, we can change some others," she concluded. "What we do together makes a difference."
