TEMPE — After appearing sparingly in six games with the Alabama Crimson Tide over the last two seasons, wide receiver Jaren Hamilton is looking forward to a fresh start with Arizona State.
Originally recruited by Nick Saban’s staff, Hamilton made the decision in January to transfer out west. Hamilton said ASU’s offense was a main factor in his decision.
“I felt comfortable on my visit,” Hamilton said. “Some of the things he (Kenny Dillingham) talked about was the offense and how explosive it could be. Especially with adding an addition like myself to the offense, I felt like this was the right place.”
How will Jaren Hamilton fit in ASU football’s offense?
When Hamilton first arrived at ASU, he didn’t know what to expect as he was unfamiliar with the program. That changed when he met his new quarterback.
Hamilton hopes to become a go-to option for Sam Leavitt when looking deep, using his track background that scouting reports say translates to the field.
During spring camp, Leavitt connected with Hamilton on several deep touchdowns, especially towards the end of the five-week session.

“He’s a competitor. I feel like he’s a leader and competitor that pushes everybody to their best,” Hamilton said of Leavitt.
“I’m not going to lie, he reminded me of my old high school quarterback (current Utah Utes receiver Creed Whittemore) a lot; the competitiveness, leadership and grit. I’ve seen a lot of that before, but when I got around him, I feel the same.”
Hamilton knows his new team is on the rise after last season. With the country’s eyes on ASU, Hamilton believes the program is capable of exceeding expectations.
“We have the ability to be a powerhouse team. I feel like we have the ability to be in those top conversations. It’s a lot of talent within these walls,” Hamilton said.
Hamilton and the Sun Devils will make their season debut on Aug. 30 against Northern Arizona.
