Outlander took over Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con this morning with series stars Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton, and Richard Rankin taking the stage, along with executive producer Maril Davis, and showrunner Matthew B. Roberts.
As they were there to promote the final season of Outlander, which was announced for an early 2026 premiere on STARZ, it was an emotional panel.

“It was a very, very hard season to shoot,” Heughan told the assembled crowd, TV Insider reported. “I think there were so many emotions going around. And I think day to day, you’d be like, “Oh, this is just another day at work. We’ve been doing this 11 years.’ But then other days, you’d be like, 'This is the last time I’m gonna work with this person or put on this costume or whatever. So, it made the last season very charged, I think.'”

As for what the last season will contain, especially since the TV series is wrapping up before bestselling author Diana Gabaldon has completed her work on the next Outlander book. The novel will be titled A Blessing for a Warrior Going Out, with Roberts overseeing the development of the story.
He said, “I think the idea for the last season was to not try to top [the previous seven], just do a really good season of Outlander and make it work. Make sure the stories work and give the characters time to do what they do… to deal with the conflicts in front of them, instead of trying to make it something it wasn’t. And I think we accomplished that. And, hopefully, you guys feel the same.”

For Davis, who was responsible for bringing the Outlander books to the attention of the team that created it for TV, there was fulfillment in the end results of the season. She said, 'I, as a fan, was very satisfied.'"
The only tease the panel shared for the upcoming season came from Heughan, who said, “For Jamie and Claire, their world is about to change very differently.”

The panel was missing Caitríona Balfe, who was filming her next historical drama, the Focus Features film Sense and Sensibility, but, according to Deadline, she recorded a message:
“I’m sorry I’m not there with you. I really wish I could be. But unfortunately, I’m filming something at the moment, and the schedule just wouldn’t allow it. So I offer my sincerest apologies. But I know that you’re in very, very capable hands with Sam and Sophie and Richard and Maril and Matt. I’m sending you all love.
“We have shared many a good time in Hall H together. I seem to recall vaguely some drinking, some dancing, maybe some Irish dancing. There have been so many amazing memories, but it’s not done yet. I am so excited for you to see the final part of this journey that we’ve all been on together for eight seasons, 12 years, which has meant so much to all of us. I know I’ll see you in the coming months before the show airs, and I’ll be looking forward to seeing you all in person. But for today, have the greatest day, and I’m so sorry again.”
