There’s a moment just before the wind changes that’s hard to describe – but I feel it. If you love and spend time outdoors, you’ll likely know this. It’s quiet, a little too quiet. The air thickens, birds pause, trees go still. Then, almost suddenly, a breeze rises and the scent of something distant moves in – rain, perhaps, or change itself.

I’ve lived long enough to know when the winds are about to shift. I feel it on my morning walks when the sun hasn’t yet burned off the haze and the mountains hold tight to their early shadows. Sometimes their peaks are hidden in low clouds, other times they shimmer sharp and defiant against a cloudless sky. But the wind? The wind always tells a story before the sky does.

This time of year, especially, that story is one of change.

The shifts are small at first. A different rhythm in how the light filters through the trees. A more profound quiet in the streets as summer slows and people retreat indoors. The evening breeze begins to carry hints of something else – something moving in, something moving out.

And I can’t help but think: this is how life moves, too.

In real estate and the heart, change often arrives like a shifting wind. It doesn’t always blow through quickly. Sometimes it lingers, builds and asks us to listen. I’ve sat across from folks at kitchen tables – some newly empty, others full of boxes – who were facing those exact winds. Divorce. A death. Retirement. A move closer to kids. Or just the realization that where they are isn’t where they belong anymore.

They didn’t all see it coming. But they felt it.

We discuss real estate as if it were just a market – interest rates, square footage, comps. But beneath all that is transition. A longing. A readiness. A hope, even when it’s buried in uncertainty.

That’s why I walk with my clients, not just guide them. Because when the winds shift, you need someone who’s not just chasing the next deal – you need someone who understands that this move might be the most vulnerable and holy part of your year… maybe your life.

And when you feel the air change in your own story – when what used to fit no longer feels quite right – it’s okay to pause. To notice. To breathe deeply. Just like the trees do when the first gusts come.

Because sometimes the wind brings storms, yes. But more often, it clears the air. It makes room for something new to grow.

That’s the beauty of change when it’s not forced. When it’s listened to, honored, even welcomed, the shift can guide you – not just out of something, but toward something better.

If you find yourself feeling it lately – that tug, that restlessness, that sense that something is shifting – it might be time to talk. Not about listings or price points just yet. But about what’s moving in your life. About what the wind might be trying to tell you.

Because you don’t have to figure it out alone.

I’ve stood in that breeze. I’ve walked with many through storms.

And I’ve watched the smiles return as they let go of a sigh.
