Scottie Scheffler has finally come clean after a week of suspense.
The world No.1 has enjoyed a whirlwind week from reigning supreme at The Open to donning the green carpet at the Happy Gilmore 2 premiere.
But on Friday, journalists only wanted the answer to one question.
A television broadcast picked up a loud farting noise during last Thursday’s play at Royal Portrush with nobody owning up to it.
Scheffler was immediately pinned as the prime suspect of the viral moment which even had the commentators throwing a few snide jokes into their broadcast.
“What are you laughing about? Let’s stick to golf,” said one commentator, who later added: “A little bit of wind from behind.”
Of course, there was a chance that it wasn’t Scheffler but instead a caddie, a fan or one of the cameramen located on the course.
But thankfully all was revealed on Friday thanks to an episode of ‘Pardon My Take.’
Asked whether the fart was his doing, Scheffler said: “Yeah, that was me. Oh, yeah. It was me.”
“You’re out there for like six hours,” he added. “You’re eating some different food over there. Some stuff’s gonna happen. You never know when the boom mics there. You never know what they’re gonna pick up.
“I’m definitely surprised it hasn’t happened more in the past, picking up stuff like that,” the Claret Jug winner continued. “I literally didn’t think anything about it, then after we got inside, Xander [Schauffele] was showing me the video.
“He pulls up the video, and I see myself standing on 17 and I’m like, ‘Oh, I know what this is.’”
Scheffler came clean when asked if it was him that farted at The OpenGettyScheffler was then bizarrely asked to grade his fart to which he replied: “It was good. It got a nice sound to it. We were outside. It was perfect.”
The American was untouchable throughout The Open, shooting a three under to start the tournament.
On Friday, he shot a seven under to take a one-stroke lead into the weekend.
He extended the lead to four with a bogey-free Saturday and claimed the title on Sunday with a four-shot win over Harris English.
“None of us could hang with Scottie this week,” said Rory McIlroy, who finished tied for seventh.
“He’s an incredible player. He’s been dominant this week. Honestly, he’s been dominant for the last couple years.

Scheffler toasted his victory with a special tribute to wife and No.1 supporter Meredith.
“Every time I’m able to win a tournament the first person I look for is my wife Meredith.
“I didn’t see her at first but then I saw my dad and saw Meredith and she’s always the first person I want to celebrate with,” he said.
“She knows me better than anyone, she’s my best friend. I wouldn’t be able to do it without her support. It’s not a lifestyle that’s suited to everybody, but we’re very grateful. It’s fun – being able to celebrate tournaments like this.”
He continued: “It’s a very special feeling.
“It takes a lot of work to get to this point in my career. This was a tough week – it was challenging. The course was playing really tough. I had to focus very hard over the course of the weekend.
“This one was different from the PGA (in May) because I had a decent lead to start the day. At the PGA, I felt like I struggled on the front nine and then was able to push forward and win it on the back nine.
“This one, I felt like I built up a lead. It got a little close there after the double bogey on eight but as I bounced back at nine I was able to keep a pretty sizeable lead for most of the day.”
