Firefighting efforts continued Friday as a wildfire scorched more than 20 acres of remote terrain in southeastern San Diego County north of Campo.
The blaze erupted just before noon Thursday off La Posta Road, about four miles from the U.S.-Mexico border, according to Cal Fire.
As of 7:30 p.m., the flames had charred at least 23 acres. Containment was at 50%, fire officials reported.
“The forward rate of spread on the fire has been stopped. Firefighters are continuing to focus on building and improving on containment lines and extinguishing hotspots within the fire’s perimeter,” the agency said in a statement.
Evacuation warnings have been lifted due to improved containment, but authorities advised the public to be mindful of firefighters working in the area, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
Some 80 personnel were assigned to the fire, including 11 engines, three hand crews and two water tenders, officials said.
No structural damage or injuries were reported.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
