Suburban Elmhurst residents told to stay indoors due to ‘ongoing public safety situation

Police in suburban Elmhurst issued a community alert due to an “ongoing public safety situation” and asked some residents to stay inside, as officers worked to conduct an arrest warrant operation with some road closures in place.

According to officials, the operation was taking place at a home near the intersection of Sunnyside Avenue and St. Charles Road.

    “The public is asked to avoid the area of St. Charles Road at Sunnyside Avenue and follow established detours due to an ongoing public safety situation,” police said in a Facebook post. The release went on to say that Elmhurst police were assisting law enforcement agencies as part of the incident.

    “Residents of Sunnyside Avenue, between St. Charles Road and Olive Street, are asked to remain indoors and follow the directions of law enforcement officers at the scene,” police said. “St. Charles Road between Berkley Ave and West Ave is closed.”
