Bill Clinton included with Donald Trump in Epstein birthday album, report states

Bill Clinton reportedly contributed to the same 50th birthday album for Jeffrey Epstein as Donald Trump, in which the former president is said to have praised the convicted sex offender’s “childlike curiosity”.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Clinton wrote a paragraph for the leather-bound album compiled by Ghislaine Maxwell in 2003, about three years before sex abuse allegations emerged against the financier.

Clinton is reported to have written: “It’s reassuring isn’t it, to have lasted as long, across all the years of learning and knowing, adventures and [illegible word], and also to have your childlike curiosity, the drive to make a difference and the solace of friends.”

The paper said a spokesman for the former president declined to comment on its report, but pointed to a previous statement which said Clinton had cut Epstein off more than a decade before he was arrested in 2019.

It also listed other prominent figures with letters in the album. They are reported to include billionaire Leon Black, fashion designer Vera Wang and media owner Mort Zuckerman.

The album is the same one cited by the paper alleging that Trump’s name appeared on a lewd birthday message, which has resulted in the US president filing a $10bn (£7.5bn) lawsuit against Rupert Murdoch, News Corp and two reporters from The Wall Street Journal.

The text was framed by what appeared to be a hand-drawn outline of a naked woman, the publication reported and is also said to have featured the signature “Donald”.

The US President denied writing the letter to Epstein, calling it “false, malicious, and defamatory”.

On Thursday, US Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said he had met with Ghislaine Maxwell, as part of an effort by the justice department to cast itself as transparent following backlash over the administration’s earlier refusal to release further records in the Epstein investigation.

“Ms Maxwell answered every single question. She never stopped, she never invoked a privilege, she never declined to answer. She answered all the questions truthfully, honestly and to the best of her ability,” lawyer David Oscar Markus told reporters outside the courthouse where the meeting took place,

In a social media post Tuesday, Blanche said that Trump “has told us to release all credible evidence” and that if Maxwell has information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims, the FBI and the Justice Department “will hear what she has to say.”

Markus said his team was “thankful” the deputy attorney general came to question Maxwell, calling it a “good day.”

Allegations that Epstein had been sexually abusing girls became public in 2006 – after the birthday book was produced – and he was arrested that year before accepting a plea deal.

Epstein died in 2019 in jail after he was arrested for a second time and charged with sex trafficking conspiracy.

Trump, who was photographed with the financier multiple times in social situations in the 90s and early 2000s, told reporters in 2019 that he ended his relationship with Epstein long before his legal troubles became apparent.
